AECOM in Europe

Welcome to AECOM, a company that aims to make a difference and create a better world in which to work and live. Put simply, our aim is to enhance and sustain the world’s built, natural and social environments.

We do this by providing professional design, technical and management support to a broad range of clients and markets, including transportation, facilities, environmental and energy. Part of a global company, we have a strong presence throughout Europe, with a network of over 30 regional offices with more than 3,000 people. We are involved in some of the most iconic and prestigious projects worldwide, which makes for both a challenging and exciting experience.

Undergraduate sponsorship, work placements and School Leaver Opportunities

Each year, AECOM sponsors a number of promising students throughout university. Candidates are expected to work with AECOM for a minimum of eight weeks during the summer vacation. It’s a great way to start a career, and the money you’ll earn will help to pay your education and living expenses. The program is limited to students who have either already obtained or expect to obtain a place on an appropriate degree course.

Following graduation, we hope to offer our sponsored students a graduate position, enrolling them into our graduate training program, GUIDE (Guide to Undertaking Integrated Training and Experience). Job offers are naturally subject to the student reaching a suitable degree grade.

As well as the sponsorship program, we offer summer vacation work and industrial placements to undergraduates through their academic years. These temporary appointments may last from three months to a year, giving the opportunity to get great experience and lead to the possibility of winning a place of the undergraduate sponsorship scheme.

In the UK, opportunities are also available for school leavers at different levels to join our structured training scheme. In some instances, these opportunities can lead to sponsorship for university.

University career fairs

AECOM regularly participates in university and college career fairs and our professionals would love to meet you and share their experiences about working with AECOM. Locations we’ve recently visited include Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Imperial College, Leeds, Nottingham, Sheffield, Southampton, Glasgow and the University of Manchester

Training opportunities and training academy

At AECOM, career development is a major part of our work philosophy. We encourage every employee at all levels to build their skills and work towards recognised professional qualifications.

Which is why every graduate who joins AECOM is automatically enrolled in our graduate training program - GUIDE. We think GUIDE is one of the best career development programs offered by our industry. Approved by a number of leading professional institutions, the scheme is designed to give you a strong grounding in your chosen field. The scheme is designed to build real-world skills, such as project management and negotiation, onto the academic knowledge you’ve already acquired at university. To help you work towards a full professional qualification within a five-year period you’ll have the dedicated support of a mentor with a keen grasp of the process.

But your training does not stop there.

At AECOM, we operate a comprehensive training academy program for every employee, which is integral to our career development and appraisal process. As well as adapting to your career path, it is also used to help us find people within our business who are ready to advance into key positions.

The academy works on three levels: foundation, management and director. Training is geared towards subjects relevant to your job or career development, delivered on a modular basis. Each level of the program generally takes between two to five years to complete.

This combination of flexible training and hands-on experience maximises the full potential of our people and makes sure that the learning we offer is relevant and meaningful to each individual.

Our requirements

We are looking for the best and brightest talent to help take our business forward. We will challenge and encourage you and actively support your professional development. In return, we expect high standards and even higher levels of commitment.

To stay ahead in a competitive marketplace, we need people with a diverse range of skills and attributes. In fact, we want a mix of intelligence, teamwork, initiative and confidence in our people, underlined by a determination to succeed.

To join us, you will need to have gained a recognised qualification at an acceptable level in one of the disciplines we need.
